The Therapy Services Offered
Individual Therapy
The purpose of Individual therapy is to facilitate insight, promote trauma resolution, change or manage habitual behavior, and move you toward a healthier, more productive, state of well-being and functioning.
Couples Therapy
The purpose of Couples Therapy is to assist the couple to identify and deal more effectively with the difficulties and problems in their relationship. Sometimes the couple can be seen conjointly or individual therapy may be necessary to help a member of the couple focus on their individual interactive process. The goal is for the couple to resume their relationship with a renewed enthusiasm, a new level of skill supported by understanding and insight into the problems, as well as learning skills to use in the future to resolve conflict.
Sexual / Intimacy Disorders
This is the problem:
“Addictive sexual behavior, acting-out behavior we sometimes call it, leads to feelings of shame and depression: it has the effect of masking, covering up, or numbing feelings; and it leads to isolation and a complete loss of control. Healthy sexual behavior, on the other hand, is characterized by mutual respect, a sense of clarity about feelings and communication, joyfulness, and genuine intimacy; it tends to make people feel emotionally and physically safe.” Hope and Recovery, 1987 SAA 12-Step
Your reality is this:
You are no longer in control. You are being controlled by your addiction. You are perhaps in crisis and the consequences of your acting out have you at risk of losing all that is important and dear in your life. You have more than a problem; you have an illness. The truth is, there is no quick cure. The road to healing and recovery takes dedication, hard work and time. The journey is arduous, but it has its rewards. The rewards of recovery bring a discovery of self, improved confidence and self- esteem, and the ability to understand true intimacy and have successful relationships. With change, the pain can stop. Learning to understand and manage your addiction can save your life.
Betrayed Spouses / Partners
Perhaps this is the most difficult time of your life. It is the nightmare you can’t wake up from. You are up one day and down the next. You are crying, then you are raging. You are going to leave, then you are going to stay. You have lost confidence in your own judgment and are uncertain of your own reality. You feel vulnerable, yet numb. You are emotionally depleted and your wounds are deep.
I work with spouses and partners of sex addicts, whose lives have been profoundly impacted by the betrayals and lies. There are no quick fixes and the road to healing and recovery is not easy. By giving yourself the opportunity to truly process your emotions and heal, you can once again experience the feelings of hope and peace as you move toward a healthier sense of well-being, creating a more balanced, happier life.
Group Therapy
I facilitate the following groups:
Group Counseling for Sex Addicts
Group can be great therapy while learning and growing with the support of others facing similar challenges and experiences.
Group Counseling for Spouses of Sex Addicts
Have you experience a spouse/partner having an affair, or betrayal through porn or sex addiction? Are you confused in your relationship, angry, hurt, and ashamed? Group can offer a safe and confidential place to heal, grow and learn.
A pre-group session with Beverly is required before joining the group. Individual work is highly recommended.
Please know that admittance to the group is dependent on clinical discretion and space available. The individual may not be ready for group work or be a good fit for the given group at that time.
Contact us for information as to current status and space available for either group.
